Video Game 30 Day Challenge Day 21 - Game with the Best Story.
Final Fantasy IX (PlayStation)
Aaahhhh this one was super difficult. And the answer I chose might just be based on nostalgia but the IX’s story was just so… I don’t know. I loved it. It might have had issues with pacing and details like that but I can honestly say I enjoyed all of it, even the seemingly unimportant bits (yeah even Quina’s shenanigans). It all had a very “classic RPG” feel to it. I like that they did make the protagonist important and not just for the sake of being important, but it wasn’t shoved into your face all the time or even early on. He’s got a past that he confronts, but it doesn’t overshadow the other partys’ ambitions and stories. In fact, they’re all there for each other through each one’s strife and that’s just awesome. They’re all friendy-friends for life. I just really… *Sniff* love IX… ;A;
Video Game 30 Day Challenge Day 19 - Picture of a Game Setting You Wish You Lived In.
Arcadia (Skies of Arcadia)
Any setting that has airships (bonus if they look like classic sea ships in the sky) has me sold and wishing I was there. This probably sounds lame (and unrealistic) but one of my biggest wishes in the world is that someone will invent airships like these sometime while I’m alive and I’ll be able to experience it. DAMN that would be rad. But anyways, even the airships aside, Arcadia just seems like such a fun world. You’ve got your sky pirates (most of which are actually just adventurers), bounties and bounty hunters, floating continents with your rich and stereotypical cultures, world mysteries waiting to be solved (the Dark Rift was an exciting and chilling experience), discoveries to be made, and that always blue sky around you, just, hnnngg. I love this game, I love these characters, and most of all, I love Arcadia. Unless you’re afraid of heights I can’t see why anyone wouldn’t want to be here. ADVENTURE! /Flapjack
Video Game 30 Day Challenge Day 18 - Favorite Protagonist.
Zack Fair (Crisis Core)
I think its probably pretty hard to come across a protagonist (especially of any sort of JRPG) that doesn’t do something that bugs you or makes you wanna facepalm, but lo and behold it is possible. I’m pretty sure the entire time I was playing Crisis Core my little heart was just all a-flutter from how enthusiastic and endearing (while still competent!) the protagonist was. Zack is very enjoyable to play as and extremely likeable, and even in this short game manages to not be a one-dimensional character either.
I think it helps that the game goes through some time-skips, but they show how he has adjusted to the things that have been happening around him, and affecting him. He still retains what makes him Zack Fair, the guy we know and love, but it becomes obvious that he is maturing in order to deal with the upcoming storm. We literally watch him grow up from a kid to a soldier.
From start to finish (;_;) Zack is all-around amazing, and for me was a breath of fresh air.
Video Game 30 Day Challenge Day 17 - Favorite Antagonist.
Albedo Piazzola (Xenosaga)
Um no contest. He is by far the most interesting antagonist to me in pretty much any media. He’s not just interesting to watch (the way he moves and speaks); everything about him is intriguing to me. After he realized that his beloved brothers (particularly Rubedo) were in fact not immortal and could die, unlike himself, his fears and paranoia were pushed to the breaking point. He would live on even after his brothers were dead, leaving him alone. This pretty much shattered his already unstable mind. Years later he antagonizes the party (again, specifically Rubedo) because he wants Rubedo to kill him. He pretty much tortures Rubedo (and the ones he cares about) in hopes that it will push the redhead over the edge and Albedo can become one with Rubedo again (*snicker*). But backstories/angst aside, he’s a sadomasochistic maniac, and that’s always fun to watch.
A tweet from the editorial department of the Super Dash Bunko just revealed that the creator of the popular light novel series, R.O.D (Read or Die), Kurata Hideyuki, is working on a new R.O.D project. The latest project is assumed to be a light novel, tentatively named as R.O.D -R-.
Video Game 30 Day Challenge Day 16 - Game With The Best Cut Scenes.
Valkyria Chronicles (PlayStation 3)
It isn’t so much the content of the cutscenes in VC for me that make them my favorite (though I’m not denying that either), but the way they’re executed. The watercolor 3D anime thing really works for it, and every scene is just soooo pretty. There is one scene in particular that I am remembering where the art-style and the scene itself go so well together, and I feel like anybody who has played the game knows which scene I’m talking about (its a spoiler so I’m gonna play it safe and not say).
Video Game 30 Day Challenge Day 15 - Post A Screenshot From The Game You’re Playing Right Now.
Dark Souls (PlayStation 3)
Lol this isn’t my screenshot (I haven’t fought any rats THIS big yet) but you’d otherwise be getting a crappy one from my phone so this will do. Been playing Dark Souls… been dying… been crying… my life
